Our team continues to work with in-country partners to provide help and hope to those affected by the storm. To date, we have served more than 1,600 families by providing water filters, lamps, hygiene kits, and meals.

Today, our team visited the camps where people are sheltered. While some have lost their homes, many have been temporarily evacuated. There is no timeframe as to when people will be allowed back in their homes. We will continue to distribute dry ration packs and hygiene kits, and purchase containers for water filtration.

On Wednesday, our team arrived in Sri Lanka and met with local partners to discuss what has been done and what needs to be done. We will continue to work with them to distribute dry ration kits, hygiene kits, and water sanitation. Today, our team will travel to several impacted communities where our partners have already begun distributions and medical care.

Convoy of Hope has a Disaster Response team en route to Sri Lanka, a tiny island nation south of India in the Indian Ocean. Dozens of lives have been lost and hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced following the huge storm that triggered landslides and flooding.

“It’s a desperate situation,” says Chris Dudley, Disaster Services Response Director. “But we have partners on the ground who’ve already started distributing dry ration packs to families in need.”

We will distribute Sawyer Water Filters and LuminAID solar lights, and we will work with our partners in assisting residents.
