When Noor and her two children first arrived in Lisbon in December 2024, they were longing for connection, stability, and a place to call home.
Originally from Pakistan, the family arrived in Portugal with hope in their hearts and the dream of building a better future. Like many newcomers, they faced the overwhelming challenges of integration, from navigating unfamiliar bureaucracies to securing essential documentation. What they found with Convoy of Hope’s collaborating programmes in Lisbon was more than just support — it was a compassionate, welcoming community that embraced them with open arms.
Noor quickly became an active and enthusiastic part of the Women’s Empowerment programme, where conversation, encouragement, and shared experiences offered a space of trust and empowerment. Whether attending special family gatherings or receiving tailored assistance, she embraced every opportunity with grace and determination.
The most heartening part of her journey has been watching her 13-year-old son, Ullah, flourish. From the moment he joined the Youth programme, his energy, curiosity, and kindness were evident. With every activity, Ullah not only showed up, he fully engaged. Over time, he built strong friendships with peers from diverse backgrounds, creating bonds that have become an anchor in his new life.
Each Wednesday, Ullah joins the other youth in an inviting space where teens can talk openly about life and faith. His thoughtful questions and genuine interest in these conversations have been inspiring. It’s clear he’s not just attending, but growing.
For an entire weekend during summer camp, Ullah laughed, learned, and embraced every moment surrounded by friends and nature. It was more than just a getaway. It was a memory he’ll carry for years to come. These are the kinds of experiences that allow youth to feel included and deeply valued.
Through every gathering, every shared meal, and every word of encouragement, Noor’s family has found more than a support system — they have found an extended family. Their journey is still unfolding, but the foundation is strong, and the future shines with hope.
