Convoy of Hope’s Women’s Empowerment programming takes many shapes depending on the needs of the community. In Spain, Convoy has partners that focus on women who have been caught in social injustice situations where all of their freedoms are stripped away. Once the women are taken out of these cruel circumstances, Convoy’s partners step in and offer the training and tools the women need to to live a free and independent life, giving them new hope for the future.
Each life and dire situation looks different, but the end goal is always the same: giving every person the chance to see their value. In Sara’s case, she felt like her dreams had been stolen from her. She was being treated as a thing and no longer as a human, until she was offered hope through Women’s Empowerment.
Within the programme, Sara was able to further her education and receive counselling to help her process what she had endured and how to heal. She was given the guidance she needed to obtain a visa and a legal work permit — now she can make a living and provide for herself.
Sara was restored. She has been given a new chance at life. With the help of Convoy of Hope and local partners, the hope that was once destroyed has been renewed. But Sara’s story doesn’t stop there. Recently she accepted a job as a cook at a school where she is surrounded daily by people who support her, even as she serves.
“I’m so grateful for this love I have experienced and the opportunities I have been given to live again, but this time, I live without fear,” said Sara.
Convoy of Hope exists to pull people from the depths of hopelessness and give them a new start. These new starts are possible because of the many people who give of their time, finances, and hearts to rewrite the stories that need to be rewritten.
