Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Thankfully, more than 113,000 children in Haiti get a nutritious meal at school through Convoy of Hope. For many, it is their only meal of the day.
“This food helps me a lot,” said Vanessa, one of the children in the program. “It helps by keeping me focused on my studies, because sometimes I come from school and don’t find food at home when I arrive. I can continue to do my homework. It is easy for me to spend more time with my classmates because I’m not hungry when I’m at school.”
Convoy of Hope began feeding children in Haiti in 2006, but the program has grown exponentially since then to accommodate thousands of children at hundreds of program centers. These program centers range from orphanages to schools, both public and private. The children regularly receive a hot meal infused with the healthy macro and micronutrients that are necessary for them to thrive. Our program in Haiti also focuses on:
- Micronutrient supplementation.
- Deworming.
- Additional education/training for children or parents on nutrition, water sanitation, hygiene, health, food preparation, values, disease prevention, food security, and self-awareness.
Since the devastating earthquake in August, the people of Haiti have needed the kindness of partners and supporters like you more than ever. If you’d like to help meet the nutritional needs of the 387,000 children in the 17 countries where we have programming, you can donate here. Your gifts will provide real help and hope to people who need it most.
