Tropical Cyclone Pam Response is Underway

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Convoy of Hope has a team in the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu after Tropical Cyclone Pam caused major destruction. Convoy of Hope has distributed 18,000 pounds of rice on the hard-hit island of Tanna, with an additional 18,000 pounds set for distribution in the coming days.

“Already, we have our Disaster Response team working to bring aid to those in need,” says Hal Donaldson, president and co-founder of Convoy of Hope. “They will pinpoint the areas of greatest need to serve families who are desperate for our help.”

According to Kary Kingsland, vice president of global initiatives, the best way to ensure that no communities are overlooked is to respond quickly and efficiently.

A second Disaster Services team is also on the way. Convoy of Hope is working with in-country partners to provide comprehensive relief for victims of the cyclone.

In 2014, Convoy of Hope responded to 22 natural disasters across the U.S. and abroad providing much-needed food, water and supplies.
