Convoy of Hope Provides Relief After Hurricane Ida in Louisiana

SPRINGFIELD, MO — August 30, 2021 — Convoy of Hope team members have set up a point of distribution and are assisting survivors located just off the coast in Houma, Louisiana. Numerous loads of relief supplies are coming in from all over the country to support those affected.

“As we look around the affected communities, it’s easy to see how both water and wind damage have devastated the areas in Ida’s path,” said Stacy Lamb of Convoy of Hope’s Disaster Services team. “Right now, we have two distributions actively occurring, and another scheduled to take place tomorrow. We’re happy we can reach the people of Louisiana in their time of need.”

Hurricane Ida knocked out power for more than 1 million residents of Louisiana — including the entire city of New Orleans — tore apart buildings, overtopped levees, and flooded communities across Louisiana’s coast. Convoy of Hope’s teams are diligently working to identify the safest routes to affected communities in the greater New Orleans area, despite severe damage to roads and infrastructure.

“I think I’m still a little bit in shock from it all,” said Scott Bledsoe, Lead Pastor of Household of Faith in nearby Gonzales, Louisiana. “It’s not the first time we’ve ridden out a storm, but it was definitely the worst.”

Rural communities such as Houma and Gonzales face enormous challenges in the storm’s aftermath. Convoy will continue to provide relief to those in need in this time of crisis. To give toward Convoy of Hope’s Hurricane Ida response, go to
