Warming Homes And Hearts

Warming Homes and Hearts

For the last three years, Convoy of Hope Europe has been working to bring help and hope to the village of Biesti, Moldova in a unique, transforming way through our Adopt-A-Community program. While projects in Biesti have involved construction work in the school and building playgrounds, the sponsor churches in Holland and Belgium also decided to provide coal to families in Biesti that could not otherwise afford to heat their homes in the bitter Moldovan winters. One of the families who received a coal delivery recently is a young lady named Liuba and her younger brother Gheorghe. Still teenagers, Liuba and Gheorghe are no strangers to looking out for themselves. Their father began drinking heavily after the death of their…

Every day we see images of the world around us through media channels. It is a limited scope, a targeted vision of what is currently “going on” in the world. We hear about politics, about sports, about wars, about Hollywood. What we do not hear about or see are the millions of hurting people in Europe, the millions who are starving. Though earthquakes and floods are initially reported in the first few weeks after the disaster, the damage they invoke lasts years and often goes unreported. Poverty is often ignored entirely unless it is to be used as a political statement. Convoy of Hope Europe is here to be a voice for the neglected, to make sure they are not…

Biesti, Moldova // AAC Trip 4

From July 2nd-9th, 2014, COHEU took its fourth Adopt-A-Community trip to Biesti, Moldova. Biesti is a community that has been adopted in partnership with Mission Impact of L’Église Protestante Évangelique de Tubize of Belgium, and Agape Church, Amsterdam, Netherlands. This time, we were joined by a team from Mission Impact. On previous trips, we have worked to build a relational foundation with the people of Biesti through several community projects. We have done home improvements, built a playground, distributed food, and even handed out 18,500 KG/40,000 lbs of coal before Christmas so families could stay warm through the winter. On this trip, we continued community development by building a fence around the local kindergarten. This helps us to forge a…

Sarajevo, Bosnia // AAC Trip 2

From June 15-22, 2014, Convoy of Hope Europe (COHEU) in partnership with Christian Center, Brussels, Belgium, took our second Adopt-A-Community trip to Sarajevo, Bosnia. The team returned to the community center continuing with renovations we helped start last year. This time, we focused on painting the walls and windows in the main meeting room, painting the hallway, and finally laying a new carpet, giving the first floor a fresh new look. Over the past 20 years, Bosnia has been struggling to recover from the devastating war between 1992-1995 which caused 13,000 casualties and left multiple generations in need of rebuilding lives and societies. Then in May 2014, Bosnia was one of the Balkan countries to be hit with record high flooding…
