Trip Recap:
Last week, a team from Christ’s Place, Lincoln, Nebraska took their second trip to their adopted community of Leova, Moldova.
The week consisted of construction, interaction at the school and a medical outreach. The construction team worked on the outside of the church as well as renovating the homes of some local elderly and poor families. They worked on a house of a man they came to call “Grandpa” and built an addition on the home of a widower with 2 children so his kids could have a room.
At the school, the team spent time with the kids being challenged to races in the gym in addition to giving English conversation classes. The school had an auditorium with no seating so we donated 45 chairs and made a presentation to the principle. The medical team, led by two doctors from Nebraska, saw hundreds of patients at a free clinic through the local hospital. Coincidentally, the hospital director’s son is studying medicine in Lincoln, Nebraska so we were able to forge a great working relationship with him. We were also able to meet with the mayor once more who thanked us for our continued work.
Finally, the town’s name sign was in disrepair so the team cleaned and repainted it to give a positive first impression of the community. The workers at the gas station nearby came out to thank the team for making the effort and appreciated the new look. All around, it was a great week and we look forward to Christ’s Place next visit to Leova!
